BAU, Sept 24: Thousands of people flocked to Bau today for the Tasik Biru Festival 2022, which will last for 11 days until Oct 2 this year, with plenty of exciting and interesting things to see and do.

Based on Sarawak’s travel and tourism concept of Culture, Adventure, Festival, and Food, it features fun activities like Jong Regatta, arm wrestling, blowpipe competition, exhibitions by government agencies and private sectors, and street fairs.

Launched yesterday by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, over 60,000 visitors are expected at the annual festival, which has become another platform for the local community to expose, promote, and market their products and services as well as talents.

Deputy Minister of Transport, who is also Tasik Biru assemblyman, Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, said for the first time, the festival is held for a longer period compared to only three days as with previous editions.

“This will benefit the local people, especially entrepreneurs in various sectors including food and beverage, handicrafts, and agriculture.

“The festival provides the best avenue through tourism and trade to improve and uplift the social and economic development of this district,” he said in a media release today.

Meanwhile, Bau District Officer Aniela Siam said the previous festivals, which only lasted for three days, were too short for the entrepreneurs and visitors to make the most out of the festival.

“Holding the festival over the weekend was too short for traders and entrepreneurs to sell their products and produce.

“Moreover, many associations and communities cannot fully enjoy and participate in planned programmes and activities. Now with longer days, visitors can come for a holiday to Bau District,” she added. — DayakDaily
