Sukma XX: Sarawak in fourth place with four more gold medals in pencak silat, boxing

KUCHING, Sept 24: The Sarawak Contingent swept another four gold medals, with two each from pencak silat and boxing, on the final day of the 20th Malaysia Games (Sukma XX) in Kuala Lumpur.

Pencak silat pair Mohd Abdul Latif Maxzakir and Raveena Jeno delivered the 29th and 30th gold medals in the Men’s Class H (80-85kg) category and Women’s Class E (65-70kg) category, respectively.

In boxing, Daeloniel Mcdelon Bong and Jackson Chambai Ikeh secured the 31st and 32nd gold medals in the Men’s Featherweight (54-57kg) category and Men’s Flyweight (48-51kg) category, respectively.


Meanwhile, boxer Mohammad Rafieq Murshidi also bagged one silver medal in the Men’s Light Welter (60-63.5kg) category.

According to an update from Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Sarawak badminton mixed doubles Owen Ting Shih Wee and Wong Ling Ching picked up bronze after defeating the pair from Melaka, Tan Kok Xian and Yap Ling, in the deciding match held at Axiata Badminton Stadium today.

The Sarawak team also delivered two bronze medals in the Men’s Fours and Women’s Pairs in lawn bowls.

With today’s medals haul, Sarawak ranks fourth in the Sukma XX medal count with 32 gold, 41 silver, and 53 bronze.

Johor remains at the top of the medal table with 75 gold, followed by Terengganu (61 gold) and Federal Territories (55 gold). — DayakDaily
