SIBU, Oct 23: The two Democratic Action Party (DAP) incumbents for Sibu and Lanang, Oscar Ling and Alice Lau, have been brought to task for not doing enough to improve infrastructure and health facilities in their constituencies.

This follows the announcement that Ling and Lau will defend their Sibu and Lanang seats in the 15th General Election (GE15).

Speaking at a press conference today, Sarawak United Peoples’ Party’s (SUPP) potential candidate for the Lanang parliamentary seat, Wong Ching Yong, pointed out the rough condition of the airport road, Sibu Hospital’s parking lot, lack of healthcare facilities, and poor internet connectivity in the rural area.

“The airport road is a Federal project under the Public Works Department (JKR). Outsiders coming here have commented that the road is so bumpy. Since 2010, what have they done, especially during the 22 months when Pakatan Harapan (PH) was the Federal government?” he asked.

Wong said there is also insufficient parking space at Sibu Hospital.

“Sibu people have also been requesting a heart centre or even a satellite heart unit. So what have they (Ling and Lau) proposed to the Federal government?” he asked.

Wong also touched on poor internet connectivity in rural areas.

“During the Covid-19 pandemic, rural students suffered as there is no (internet) line. So we need good MPs to fight for Sibu,” he said.

Therefore, he called on voters to give Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) a chance to fight for Sibu and the State’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement (MA63) and reclaim its autonomy on health and education.

Wong also appealed to young voters, especially those who would be voting for the first time, to choose wisely. — DayakDaily
