Sharp drop in Covid-19 cases in Sarawak

KUCHING, March 20: The Covid-19 cases in Sarawak today witnessed a sharp drop to 154 from 407 reported yesterday.

According to State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, the cases in Sarawak were derived from Sibu (43), Kuching (23), Kapit (20), Miri (16), Serian (13), Bintulu (13), Kanowit (6), Bukit Mabong (5), Julau (3), Samarahan (3), Meradong (3), Betong (2), Marudi (1), Bau (1), Sebauh (1), and Song (1).


With the additional 154 cases reported, he noted the tally of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Sarawak has increased to 13,974 cases.

“A total of 84 cases were from individuals who had close contacts to Covid-19 positives and seven of them are symptomatic.

“There are 28 cases reported from individuals within the existing active clusters and two are symptomatic.

“There are also 29 cases from other screening at health facilities.

“Some 13 cases are from screening of symptomatic individuals at health facility,” he said during a press conference on the updates of the Covid-19 situation in Sarawak at the old State Legislative building here today.

Uggah, who is also Deputy Chief Minister, said there were 195 Covid-19 patients who recovered and were allowed to be discharged from hospitals.

In spite of that, a total of 2,616 patients are still being treated for Covid-19 at hospitals and low risk quarantine centres throughout the state.

There were also 154 new cases of Person-Under-Investigation (PUI) reported and none awaiting the results of Covid-19 swab test. — DayakDaily
