KUCHING, Sept 10: The Sarawak government’s RM100,000 financial assistance for each family affected by the Long Lellang helicopter crash is aimed at helping them cope with the aftermath, while education sponsorship for the victims’ children is intended to secure their future.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the State government wanted to ensure the affected families and the victims’ children received continued support following the tragedy.
“We are providing financial assistance of RM100,000 to each family.
“As for their children, their education will be funded by Yayasan Sarawak,” he told reporters after the launching ceremony of the Sarawak SHInE International Conference 2026 at the Imperial Hotel here today.
He was responding to a question about the recent announcement on financial aid for the families of the Long Lellang helicopter crash victims.
The incident occurred on Sept 8 when a BO-105 helicopter carrying five people crashed near the Long Lellang Short Take-Off and Landing (STOL) airport in Marudi.
The remains of all five victims were identified yesterday (Sept 9) through DNA analysis as pilot Captain Zainol Afiq Bee Sham, 30; medical officer Dr Ainul Baraah Kamaruddin, 33; medical assistant Alexson Adit Henry, 31; and staff nurses Debra Moset, 40, and Jessie Paya Jok, 44. – DayakDaily
