Sarawak sees 45 Covid-19 clusters in just 3 months in 2021, 35 remain active

KUCHING, March 20: Sarawak has compiled a total of 45 clusters in just three months in 2021, with 35 of them remaining active until today.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said among the 35 active clusters, 64,046 individuals have been screened for Covid-19.


He added the number of positive cases from the 35 active clusters stood at 5,783 and there were 57,001 negative results from the second swabs.

Another 1,262 samples are still waiting for their results from the laboratory.

And today, out of the 35 clusters, seven of them report an increase in new cases including the newly declared Tanjung Genting Cluster that involved a eatery in Sungai Mador, Meradong.

That cluster registered the highest number of 22 new cases today, with 39 negatives and five more awaiting test results.

Coming in second was the funeral cluster in Gelong, Kapit that picked up 13 new patients today, pushing the cluster toll up to 270.

As of today, 315 individuals have been screened where 45 returned negative results and none awaiting test results from the lab.

The other clusters with new cases were the funeral Emperoh Jambu in Kuching with six cases, the supermarket clusters dubbed Jalan Tanjung, Bintulu (5) and Jalan Sanyan, Sibu (4), and the Jalan Kampung Hilir, Sibu and logging camp Begalak, Song with one case each.

The remaining 28 active clusters did not report any new cases today. —DayakDaily
