KUCHING, Sept 10: The ongoing construction of the RM300 million Sarawak Infectious Disease Centre (SIDC) is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2027.
SIDC chief executive officer Associate Prof Dr Ivan K.S. Yap said this in his speech during the launching ceremony of the Sarawak SHInE International Conference 2026 held at a local hotel here today.
“I would like to share with you that our facility is scheduled for its official launch in Q3 2027,” he said.
He added that the SIDC started operations in early 2024 with just one staff member. Construction of the facility in Samarahan began in March of the same year.
“Two years on, looking around this room, I see that idea has grown into something far greater than any of us could have built alone, and our facility is not even here yet,” he said.
The centre will support research into tropical diseases while helping Sarawak strengthen its healthcare standards through collaboration with experts from leading hospitals and medical faculties worldwide.
The conference was officiated by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. – DayakDaily
