23yo motorcyclist killed after allegedly riding against traffic on Pujut-Miri flyover

MIRI, Sept 10: A 23-year-old local motorcyclist was killed after allegedly riding against traffic and colliding head-on with a car on the Pujut-Miri flyover near Boulevard Shopping Mall early this morning.

The crash occurred at about 12.02am, involving the motorcycle ridden by the victim and a car driven by a 31-year-old local man.

Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the motorcyclist was travelling from the direction of the city towards Pujut when he is believed to have ridden against the flow of traffic before crashing into the front of the car.

The motorcyclist sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical assistant from Miri Hospital at about 12.22am.

The car driver was uninjured in the crash.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Police are appealing to anyone with information on the incident to contact traffic investigating officer Insp Mohd Faizal Moktar at 012-818 6509 or 085-430479, or any nearby police station.

Road users are also reminded to practise safe and responsible driving and comply with traffic regulations to avoid endangering other road users. — DayakDaily
