KUCHING, May 2: The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) is setting up a Covid-19 one-stop centre for Kuching at Dewan Masyarakat MBKS here which will operate from tomorrow (May 3).

SDMC advisor Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian said the centre is the committee’s first pilot project aimed at improving coordination of more than 15 agencies from federal and state governments to manage the Covid-19 situation in Kuching.

He added the centre will consist of six components with relevant agencies stationing their manpower there.

“Will be the command centre for the District of Kuching in our war with Covid-19.

“(First), screening and PCR swab (TAT is a key factor to control the spread)

“(Second) Covid-19 Assessment Centre (CAC to assess those with category one and two for home quarantine)

“(Third) investigation and contact tracing (key to control the spread)

“(Fourth) enforcement units (more than five other agencies rather than police or council only)

“(Fifth) helpdesk or hotlines and (Sixth) transportation (retrieving positive cases, quarantine order, enforcement),” he said in a Facebook posting last night.

Dr Sim who is also Minister for Local Government and Housing said the one-stop centre will operate every day, from Monday to Friday from 9am to 7pm and Saturday, Sunday and public holidays from 9am to 2.30pm.

He made a working visit to Dewan Masyarakat MBKS yesterday to ensure that the one-stop centre is ready for operation tomorrow.

Among those who joined Dr Sim during his working visit to check on the preparation of the one-stop centre were SDMC chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Assistant Minister for Islamic Affairs and DBKU Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, State Health Department director Dr Chin Zin Hing and Kuching South City Council mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng.

Apart from that, Dr Sim reminded everyone to play their roles by practicing the standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the prevention of Covid-19 when in the public.

Dr Sim said the state government needs everyone to cooperate, continue their sacrifices, hardship, inconvenience and disruption until the State has vaccinated 70 per cent of the population in Sarawak by August before certain SOPs could be relaxed. — DayakDaily
