KUCHING, Sept 5: The proposed development of the Federal Administrative Centre (FAC) in Rambungan, near Jalan Matang, planned as a ‘Mini Putrajaya’ in Sarawak, was shelved due to several constraints, including land issues and implementation delays.
In a TVS news report, Sarawak Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Regional Development Agencies, DBKU, and Islamic Affairs Coordinator) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the proposed development was the result of discussions between the Sarawak and federal governments to establish a dedicated area to house federal departments and agencies.
He said the project was planned in 2020 on approximately 2,020 hectares, with a concept inspired by the FAC in Putrajaya.
“After discussions with the federal government, the Sarawak government wanted to build a Mini Putrajaya in the area. Putrajaya has already been completed, so we wanted to build a Putrajaya (in Sarawak) as well to house federal departments.
“The area is located near the end of our road. That is why the road (Petra Jaya–Rambungan route) was built to serve as a link to the project,” he said in his speech before witnessing the handover of the Street Lighting Provision Project at Lebuh Pehin Sri Haji Adenan Satem at Wisma Saberkas here today.
However, he said several factors prevented the development from being completed or proceeding as originally planned.
Constraints included land-related issues and delays in project implementation, which ultimately affected the development plans for the FAC in the area.
He said these circumstances eventually prevented the FAC project from proceeding, despite related infrastructure having been planned to support the area’s development. — DayakDaily
