KUCHING, Sept 5: The haze situation in Sarawak has caught the attention of Swedish activist Greta Thunberg.
Thunberg, known for her stance on climate change and social issues, shared an Instagram post from Channel News Asia (CNA) about Serian’s high Air Pollutant Index (API) reading on Friday (Sept 4).
“Serian recorded an Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 515 at 5pm on Friday (Sep 4), after haze there worsened overnight. Readings above 400 are classified as ‘very hazardous’,” said the post.
On Friday, Serian’s API exceeded 500, which prompted a state of emergency to be declared in the division as the air quality had reached a ‘very hazardous’ level.
Although Serian’s API has eased today, the division will remain under the state of emergency for the next three days, with workplaces and businesses in the affected area allowed to continue operating subject to health precautionary measures. — DayakDaily
