MBKS presents dates to 17 mosques and suraus, financial aid to needy in conjunction with Ramadan

KUCHING: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has distributed 17 boxes of dates to 17 mosques and suraus as well as financial aid to 150 children from needy families within the council area in conjunction with the Ramadan month.

Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng presented the dates and aid during the MBKS ‘Ihya Ramadan’ with Community programme held at Surau Darul Akhirat, Kampung Lumba Kuda here yesterday (May 1).

Also present were MBKS Deputy Mayor Hilmi Othman, Cr Sufian Ateng, Cr Bong Lian Huan and Tay Motor Sdn Bhd managing director Aaron Tay.

During the handover ceremony, Wee also switched on the decorative lightings in the surau as a symbolic gimmick.

The Council has contributed some lightings to 17 suraus and mosques namely Surau Darul Akhirat (Lumba Kuda), Surau Darussalam (Tabuan Melayu), Masjid Darul Barakah (BDC), Masjid Darul Falah (Kpg Tabuan Hj Drahman), Masjid Wan Alwi (Tabuan Jaya), Masjid Darussaadah (Tabuan Melayu), Masjid Darul Ittihad (Kenyalang Park), Surau Darul Ibadah (Jln Mendu), Surau Darul Hidayah (Kpg Sg Periuk), Surau Nurul Hidayah (Kpg Cemerlang), Surau Darul Salihin (Tabuan Tengah), Surau Darul Hajat (Tabuan Hilir), Surau Darul Hassanah (Tabuan Lot Dani), Surau Darul Cemerlang (tabuan Cemerlang), Surau Darul Ibadah (Kpg Sri Maimunah), Surau Al Mukhalis (Kpg Stutong Melayu) and Surau Darul Falah (Flat Tabuan Park).

Wee reminded members of the public to celebrate the festival responsibly by obeying and strictly following the standard operating procedures (SOPs) laid by Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

“Always wear face mask, wash your hands regularly with soap or hand sanitiser, avoid hand shakes, avoid crowded areas, avoid any big gatherings, aware with the physical distancing, and keep you and your family safe,” he said.

Wee also took the opportunity to wish Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri to all Muslims who will be celebrating the festival. — DayakDaily
