MIRI, April 16: Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts I Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew says that Sarawak’s tourism sector is well prepared for the resurgence of international and domestic tourists.

“With international and domestic flights resuming and the land border between Sarawak and Indonesia reopening, we are expecting more people to visit the State,” he disclosed when met on Saturday after a book launching ceremony held at Pustaka Negeri Sarawak Miri branch.

Prior to April 1, Ting said his Ministry expects to welcome 1.2 million tourists in Sarawak this year.

“We recorded some 76,000 people entering Sarawak, for each of the first three months of the year, which augurs well for the State’s tourism sector,” he said.

He added that with the interstate border restrictions being eased between Sarawak and Indonesia, it would provide a boost for Sarawak’s medical health tourism.

“Now that the border restrictions have been lifted, people from Indonesia who wish to get medical care in Sarawak can now enter the State,” he said.

Ting added that since the Biawak Quarantine and Security Post (ICQS) was reopened, travellers arrivals from Indonesia have increased tremendously. — DayakDaily
