KUCHING, Sept 2: Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Kota Sentosa received a grant worth RM700,000 from the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor).
The cheque was handed over by Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap Yau Sin to Father Felix Au and witnessed by Elder Ambrose Linang from Unifor during a simple ceremony held at the church today.
In a statement today, Yap said he also requested for the church to provide a report to Unifor on how the funding is spent.
“This is part of the key performance index (KPI) set by the Sarawak government for Unifor, which is important for accountability and transparency on the usage of the grant,” he said.
He said the Sarawak government under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) understands the importance of religious harmony which is the platform of tolerance, mutual respect, and appreciation amongst the multi religious and multi racial composition of the people of Sarawak.
He also said that when people come together, they can learn from one another and develop a deeper appreciation for diversity, leading to a more inclusive and equitable society based on the needs and aspirations of the people, which is essential for building a better future through the continuous progress and development of Sarawak.
At the same time, Yap called for Sarawakians to continue to rally behind GPS under Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg to showcase Sarawak as beacon of light for fair and moderate policies catering to all regardless of race or religion.
He also hoped that the Sarawak government would continue to gradually increase the allocation of funds for Unifor so that more religious bodies and mission schools in his constituency that need funds can be assisted. — DayakDaily
