SPAOH, Feb 3: The Spaoh waterfront is set to undergo a substantial expansion with an investment of RM20 million, aimed at creating more space for recreational activities, exhibitions, as well as food and trade fairs.

In addition, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the new Spaoh market will also be expanded to accommodate a night market or a food court area, with an estimated cost of RM5 million.

“Simultaneously, ongoing construction of more new commercial lots is underway.

“When all these are done, I believe Spaoh will be a more vibrant and livelier town to live in and visit,” he said during a pre-Chinese New Year dinner gathering held at the Spaoh Community Hall on Friday (Feb 2).

On the development of the health sector, Uggah highlighted that a hemodialysis centre will be constructed near the Spaoh Health Clinic this year, with a budget of RM5 million.

“When completed, our kidney patients will have convenient access to treatment without the need to travel to overcrowded centres in Debak or Betong.

“But at the same time, my advice is for the people to take good care of their health. Avoid excessive consumption of alcohol and unhealthy diet,” he reminded.

Furthermore, Uggah and Betong Member of Parliament (MP) Dr Richard Rapu pledged their commitment to secure funding from the Federal government for the construction of a new clinic to serve the local community.

With a designated site already identified, they assured the people of their ongoing efforts to bring development and progress to Spaoh.

“However, the success would depend very much on the people themselves through their committed and resilient participation and support,” he added.

At the gathering organised by Spaoh Chung Hua Association, Uggah and Betong member of Parliament (MP) Dr Richard Rapu announced grants totalling RM170,000 with RM80,000 for Spaoh Chinese temple project and RM60,000 for the Association to carry out various activities and projects. — DayakDaily
