According to National Unity Minister Dato Sri Aaron Ago Dagang, each premises has its own uniqueness in making the heritage dish that is loved by the people of Sarawak.

“Therefore, I am pleased to announce that all of these restaurant premises have been recognised as ‘Citarasa Menu Kami’ for having successfully highlighted food premises that bring together moments of unity through Malaysians’ choice of food,” he said during the event.

In addition, the event also featured six other main traditional foods namely, nasi lemak, fried teow kuey, ayam pansuh, nasi briyani, kek lapis and latok.

Other activities for the two-day event (Feb 3 and 4) include traditional food demonstration, ethnic music performance, ‘Cuba Rasa Kopi’, ‘Kopi dan puisi’, Unity Table Challenge, Laksa Eating Challenge, traditional games and Young Chef.

The ‘FoodUnites: Ini Warisan Kita’ programme was launched in October last year to appreciate the rich heritage and treasures of the country’s ethnic diversity.

“The first series was held in Shah Alam, Selangor for the Nasi Lemak menu which is certainly the food of choice for all Malaysians. The programme has also recorded the most sold nasi lemak in a day in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR).

“FoodUnites is a new integration site that will be highlighted as one of the platforms to strengthen the inter- and intra-ethnic social interaction in Malaysia to fuel the spirit of togetherness among Malaysians through food,” he added.

Ago also announced that the programme will be implemented in all 13 states and three Federal territories in Malaysia to foster unity among the citizens through a food heritage approach.

“KPN plans to implement this programme in Melaka by presenting the Melaka heritage menu which is Asam Pedas,” he emphasised. — DayakDaily
