KUCHING, Sept 11: Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas is confident that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will win all Dayak seats in the coming State election.
He attributed his confidence to elected representatives’ achievements in delivering development projects and bringing benefits to their respective constituencies.
Uggah said another key factor was Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s ‘Sarawak First’ approach, which prioritises the State’s interests and efforts to raise funds for development.
“I am confident that Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), or GPS for that matter, will win all Dayak seats in the coming State elections.”
“With the good achievements of the elected representatives in developing their areas and bringing benefits to the people, plus the ‘Sarawak First’ factor, what other option do you have?” Uggah told reporters today at the N19 Mambong Election Machinery Workshop at Biperoh Hall, Jalan Borneo Heights.
Uggah, also Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, said the GPS government had delivered on its development agenda and would continue to do so.
“We don’t make rhetorical promises. Our development agenda is ongoing and will continue,” he asserted, expressing confidence that Sarawakians would continue to rally behind GPS.
Asked whether all eight incumbent assemblymen representing Bidayuh-majority seats would be retained, Uggah said the Premier would announce the decision.
However, he said he was satisfied with the performance of all eight incumbents, who have been overseeing projects under the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) as well as other development initiatives.
The eight incumbent Bidayuh assemblymen are Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn (Tarat), Datuk Dr Jerip Susil (Mambong), Dato Henry Jinep (Tasik Biru), Datuk Miro Simuh (Serembu), Billy Sujang (Opar), Datuk Martin Ben (Kedup), Dr Simon Sindang Bada (Tebedu), and John Ilus (Bukit Semuja).
Earlier in his speech, Uggah said the coming State election may still be contested under the existing 82-seat arrangement, rather than the proposed redelineation to 99 seats. — DayakDaily
