According to Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), the visit on Monday (April 20) served as a preliminary inspection prior to the arrival of Premier, who is expected to visit the site on April 25 after officiating the Sarawakku Sayang Programme (SKS) 2026 for the Miri Division at Miri Stadium.

Sarawak Deputy State Secretary (Administration) Datu Felicia Tan, Miri Division Resident Galong Luang, Ukas director Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan and consultants involved in the project’s implementation were present during the visit.

The delegation received a briefing from Miri Port Authority general manager Serawa Budol on the current status and progress of the dredging works.

Following the briefing, Abu Bakar and his delegation toured the project area to observe ongoing dredging operations, which are being carried out using specialised machinery, including the movement of support vessels within the delta.

The delegation also undertook a boat journey from the delta project site to the Miri Port Authority Terminal, a trip of approximately 50 minutes, to gain a comprehensive perspective of the project’s implementation from both land and sea.

Abu Bakar described the project as a strategic and forward-looking initiative with significant potential to drive economic growth in Miri, particularly within the maritime sector.

He added that the Premier’s visit this Saturday is expected to provide an opportunity to personally assess the project’s progress and obtain the latest updates on its implementation. — DayakDaily
