KUCHING, Aug 23: The 414-member Sarawak Para Sukma contingent is entering the final stretch of preparations as it gears up to defend its title at the Para Sukan Malaysia (Para Sukma) XXII Selangor 2026 next month.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) report, Minister of Women, Early Childhoo,d and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah confirmed the contingent’s preparations after inspecting athletics and swimming training sessions at the Sarawak Youth and Sports Complex here today.
During her visit, she had the opportunity to see the athletes’ progress firsthand while offering encouragement and support as they prepare for the biennial Games.
With the competition drawing closer, preparations have entered a crucial phase, with the athletes focusing on both physical and mental readiness ahead of the contingent’s departure for Selangor on Sept 1.
As defending champions, the Sarawak contingent faces the challenge of maintaining the state’s strong reputation in para sports.
Para Sukma XXII will feature 10 sports—boccia, para badminton, para lawn bowls, para chess, para archery, para athletics, para table tennis, para powerlifting, para swimming, and para tenpin bowling.
Also present were Deputy Minister of Women, Early Childhoo,d and Community Wellbeing Development and Sarawak Para Contingent Chef de Mission Datuk Dr Mohammad Razi Sitam, Sarawak Welfare Department (JKMS) director Semawi Mohamad, Para Athletics head coach Matthew Chin Hiong Choi, and Sarawak Para Athletics team manager Siti Nurbaya Ramin. — DayakDaily
