KUCHING, Nov 15: Riam Road Secondary School (RRSS) in Miri prepares its students for the future under the Sarawak Post-Covid Development Strategy 2030.

RRSS chief executive officer Dr Pauline Ho said the Post-Covid Development Strategy 2030 is a very important blueprint that embodies Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari’s vision to make Sarawak a developed state by 2030, with a focus on the overall socio-economic development through job creation and business opportunities.

“With our progressive and innovative education, RRSS, Riam Institute of Technology (RiamTec) and Riam Hill International Secondary School (RHISS) are well-placed to provide skilled and talented human capital as Sarawak is making steady strides to be a developed state in nine years’ time,” she said in her speech during the official opening ceremony of Riam Academic and Administrative Block, broadcast live via Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) Facebook page, today.

She noted that besides the usual Dong Zong and the Standard-Based Curriculum for Secondary Schools (KSSM), RRSS has global perspective and physical computing as co-curricular learning for students.

She explained the purpose of introducing these two subjects is to provide students with 21st-century education so that they are equipped with the necessary learning skills with empathy and self-awareness.

“With international dimension in the school education, RRSS prepares students to be global citizens who will find solutions for the challenges of today and the future. We are providing education for sustainable development,” she added.

She also pointed out that RiamTec plays an important role in supplying skilled human capital to fill job demands from various industry sectors in Sarawak.

According to her, the setting up of RHISS will also provide Cambridge IGCSE education with realistic and affordable fees to families who are considering the international school route for their children.

Besides, she continued, students in RHISS will study Chinese, Bahasa Malaysia, Sejarah (History), and Moral Studies in case they want to opt for admission into local public universities.

“RRSS, RiamTec and RHISS are clear cases of the private sectors’ involvement to cater to the needs of Chinese education, international education and tertiary level education in Sarawak.

“The directors of the school board are very clear of the need to provide quality education to not just this generation, but many generations to come.” — DayakDaily
