KUCHING, Aug 29: Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government (Public Health and Housing) Michael Tiang states that the vibrantly exciting township of Sibu Jaya is fast becoming a verdant playground for community-oriented activities.

According to a statement, Tiang noted that with Sibu Jaya’s award-winning master plan, which places a strong emphasis on people’s wellbeing, the township is seen increasingly as the go-to place for community events, sports, and recreation.

He said this when receiving a courtesy call from the organising chairman and secretary of the upcoming Sibu Jaya Motorcross Challenge.

He said that all parties, from the local council to developers, residents, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), must continue working together for the latest development to take root and succeed in Sibu Jaya.

“Nothing is stopping Sibu Jaya from becoming the centre of attraction for community-oriented events.

“As it is, residents from upriver are making a beeline for Sibu Jaya on weekends for food and shopping.

“With more activities, even residents from downtown Sibu will also be drawn to the township,” he added.

Furthermore, Tiang, who is also Pelawan assemblyman, pointed out that with the official opening of the Azman Hashim Community Sports Centre on July 1, Sibu Jaya has quickly seen it playing host to over 30 sporting events in a brief period of two months.

“I do believe apart from sports, other community-oriented events such as the Sibu Jaya Carnival will also draw people to Sibu Jaya.

“As such, all parties must work together to create even more events,” he mentioned.

In addition, he remarked that by looking at the township’s masterplan, there would be a green lung with water bodies in the centre of Sibu Jaya, which can give rise to even more venues for various activities such as RC boats, kite-flying, motocross, and 4×4 off-road challenges.

Tiang also stated that AmCorp Sibu Jaya, the developer, has been very proactive in organising activities and supporting NGOs, such as the upcoming motocross challenge.

“This forthcoming motocross is just another example, and I am enthusiastic there will be more,” he acknowledged.

The Pelawan assemblyman also emphasised that many other parties, such as NGOs (non-governmental organisations) and especially the people of Sibu Jaya, had been very proactive and that all of this bodes well for the township to catapult itself to the forefront as a hub for people-oriented activities.

“I hope all parties will realise they must be on the same page. It would not succeed if only one party were to do all the heavy lifting while the other parties sit back and wait for things to happen,” he highlighted.

Touching on the overall Sibu Jaya masterplan, Tiang said it was common knowledge the plan was conceived by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg when he was leading the Ministry of Housing.

“We can all see the success of Sibu Jaya as a township. This is due to the foresight of the Premier,” he said, adding it was now up to the relevant parties to fully implement Abang Johari’s vision and bring it to total fruition.

“So, let us all work together as a team and bring this exciting Sibu Jaya Township to another level,” he said.

On the motocross challenge, organising chairman Sii How Ping and organising secretary Ching Leong Hook reported that riders from Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu, Miri, and Brunei had confirmed their participation.

The two-day event will be flagged off by Dudong assemblyman Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing on Sept 3 at 10am, while Tiang will officiate at the closing ceremony on Sept 4 at 5 pm.
