MIRI, Oct 6: The city of Miri has not recorded any ‘sick’ or abandoned housing projects in the last 20 years, says mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang.

In fact, it has seen property development double since its elevation to city status.

“There is rapid development in Miri City and we can see that through the increasing number of properties every year. In Miri the number of properties is increasing between two to three per cent yearly,” he disclosed on Friday after officiating at the Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers Association’s (Sheda) roadshow at Bintang Megamall Miri.

Yii revealed that the total number of properties in Miri City stands at 73,454.

“Since we were elevated to city status in 2005, we can see a significant increase of properties in Miri City by 90.4 per cent,” he told the media.

Alsp present was Sheda Miri chairman James Hii.

On another note, Yii has also urged property developers and home buyers to come together and form a Joint Management Body (JMB) as soon as possible to better manage high-rise properties in the city.

“High-rise buildings are a trend nowadays, and we are having more and more high rise buildings in Miri, so the Sarawak government has come up with the Strata Managemeny Ordinance 2019 to ensure a better strata community living for all,” he pointed out.

This year’s Sheda roadshow consists of 20 booths featuring housing developers, property agents, suppliers of smart home systems, flooring, and financing including Mutiara Mortgage and Credit Sdn Bhd. — DayakDaily
