KUCHING, March 21: Malaysia through the Sarawak government has reached an understanding with the Indonesian government over the investment and supply of hydrogen gas to Indonesia’s new capital Nusantara in East Kalimantan.

Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that he had the opportunity to meet with Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and discussed the Sarawak government’s hydrogen-related investment in Nusantara.

“This shows the confidence of our neighbour towards Malaysia’s current administration,” he said at a press conference following the unity government secretariat meeting on Sunday night (March 19).

In a news report by TVS yesterday (March 20), Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Jokowi had previously informed him of the understanding between the Sarawak government and Indonesia.

“This development is very helpful in gaining investors’ confidence,” he added.

In another development, Anwar announced that a convention involving the parties within the unity government will be held to determine the common direction and course of action in leading the country.

Anwar, who is also Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, said the convention, among others, is also aimed at framing the same thinking and policies among the parties that formed the unity government.

“The unity government secretariat will discuss with party leaders to set a suitable date for the convention,” he added.

Deputy Prime Ministers Dato Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is the Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, and Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof, who is Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chief whip were among those attending the meeting.

Other party leaders present included Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy president Mohd Rafizi Ramli, Democratic Action Party (DAP) secretary-general Anthony Loke and National Trust Party (Amanah) deputy president Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub. — DayakDaily
