BAU, Aug 24: Bau police are tracking down the driver of a vehicle believed to have been involved in a hit-and-run accident involving a pedestrian at Kilometre 8.5 of Jalan Bau-Krokong near the Fairy Cave area here on Sunday (Aug 23).
Bau district police chief Supt Mohd Haide A. Rahman said the incident left a 63-year-old local man seriously injured in the head, body, and legs after he was believed to have been struck from behind by a vehicle while walking home with his wife.
“The victim received emergency assistance before being taken to Bau Hospital and subsequently referred to Sarawak General Hospital for further treatment.
“However, the type and registration number of the vehicle involved have yet to be identified,” he said in a statement today.
He said police are investigating the case under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Members of the public with information about the incident or who witnessed the accident are urged to assist the investigation by contacting the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at the Bau District Police Headquarters (IPD).
Police also advised the public against making speculation or spreading unverified information that could interfere with the investigation. — DayakDaily
