PM Anwar conferred Brunei’s highest order of chivalry as Malaysia-Brunei ties deepen

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Aug 22: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has been conferred Brunei Darussalam’s highest order of chivalry, the Darjah Kerabat Laila Utama (D.K.), in a prestigious honour reflecting the close ties between the two neighbouring nations.

According to a report by TVS, the honour was bestowed by the Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, at Istana Nurul Iman today, in conjunction with Anwar’s working visit to Brunei for the 27th Malaysia-Brunei Annual Leaders’ Consultation (ALC-27).

The conferment was among the key highlights of Anwar’s visit, which also included a one-on-one meeting with Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.

The honour underscores the longstanding and special relationship between Malaysia and Brunei, particularly at the leadership level.

Also present at the conferment ceremony were Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, and other members of the Malaysian delegation.

Following the ceremony, Anwar continued with the ALC-27 agenda, including a one-on-one meeting with Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.

The leaders later witnessed the signing and exchange of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) at Baitul Mesyuarah, including an agreement on disaster management cooperation involving Malaysia’s National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA).

The ALC-27 is expected to strengthen bilateral ties between Malaysia and Brunei further while broadening cooperation in strategic areas for the benefit of both countries. — DayakDaily
