Serian’s API hits 199, borders ‘very unhealthy’ level while Mukah nears ‘unhealthy’ at 100

KUCHING, Aug 24: The Air Pollution Index (API) reading in Serian is bordering the ‘very unhealthy’ level at 199 as of 12pm today, with four other areas in the State recording unhealthy readings.

According to data from the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) under the Department of Environment (DOE), the four other areas are Kuching (179), Samarahan (173), Sri Aman (158), and Bintulu (137).

Meanwhile, other areas in Sarawak recorded moderate readings, with Mukah nearing the ‘unhealthy’ level at 100, followed by Miri and Samalaju at 87 each, ILP Miri (85), Sibu (84), Sarikei (81), Kapit (78), and Limbang (71).

Overall, five areas in Sarawak recorded unhealthy API readings, and eight recorded moderate readings.

An API reading of zero to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are hazardous. — DayakDaily
