KUCHING, Oct 7: A Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) assemblyman has appealed for more time to make good on the promises he made, stating that the GPS government will fulfil its promises, one at a time.

Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap stressed that he would honour all the promises made during the Sarawak Election in 2021 but appealed for “a bit of time”.

“Yesterday, when I met Premier (Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg) at Kampung Haji Baki, I told him that N12 (Kota Sentosa) was under the Opposition party for 12 years. GPS has won the seat now, and I have made a lot of promises to the voters. I need to fulfil them.

“He (Abang Johari) replied that GPS will make good on all promises, but it has to be done in stages.

“I hope the people can give the GPS government a bit of time to strategise. Then, we will get all promises realised, one promise by one promise,” said Yap when inspecting the drainage and road-surfacing projects at Lorong Sherip Masahor 3 with Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng today, which was streamed live.

The projects, which were joint efforts of Yap and MBKS, where Yap supported them with his Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) fund, have been completed. The contractor handed over the projects to MBKS for maintenance today.

Like Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang, Yap also called to support GPS’ candidate for Stampin for the coming 15th General Election (GE15).

“To develop better, it is not enough to rely on an individually elected representative. We also need funding from the federal (government).

“If the residents (of Kuching) hope for more development, support our Stampin candidate. Until now, I don’t know who the candidate is; please give your approval because I need more help to bring development,” said Yap.

On the issue raised by a netizen regarding the constant flash floods and soil erosion at Stutong Resettlement Scheme, Yap said he had presented the issue at the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) and the related minister and the Premier.

“I believe there will be some good news soon,” said Yap. — DayakDaily
