KUCHING, Oct 7: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, while hoping for the State to be allocated more funding in the 2023 Budget, expresses thoughtfulness to accept less only if the national economy is bad.

He was commenting on the Budget 2023 announcement scheduled for 4pm later during a press conference after officiating at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Hikmah Complex and Tahfiz Hikmah School at Jalan Pustaka here today.

“I don’t know (how the budget allocation will be) because our economy is moving slow. I have to be practical. If the overall condition in Malaysia is not doing well, as I said, we suffer together if things are bad.

“But certainly, I wish Sarawak to be allocated more funding because there are a lot of developments to be done here,” he said.

Abang Johari said the Sarawak government has been pouring a lot of its own money into local development, such as the Sarawak coastal road network as well as water and electricity supplies.

“All these come from our own funds. That’s why I always ask the people to pray that Sarawak’s revenue will continue to increase,” he added.

The Budget 2023 is expected to be tabled by Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz at 4pm in Parliament today. — DayakDaily
