KUCHING, May 13: Kapit Member of Parliament (MP) and Minister of Works Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi has instructed the relevant authorities to install more warning signs along the road in Song following a recent accident involving a pickup truck.
“To my knowledge, the landslide occurred in the area since the monsoon season in January. I visited the site myself and a month later returned for a meeting at the Song District Office.
“I specifically requested that the relevant authorities put up more warning signs along the road, especially for those unfamiliar with the area, so they can be aware of the road conditions,” he told reporters after officiating the International Construction Week (ICW) Borneo 2025 at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today.
He expressed concern that while locals are generally aware of landslide-prone zones in the area, visitors may not be, increasing the risk of accidents.
His remarks come after a road accident that took place around 10.40pm on Monday (May 12), where a pickup truck crashed into a ravine at Jalan Temalat in Song. The driver, a 34-year-old man, sustained minor injuries in the incident.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the driver managed to escape from the Toyota Hilux before firefighters arrived. He was later handed over to police and taken to the nearest hospital for medical treatment.
Nanta said he is still waiting for the official police report but was informed that there were no fatalities.
“The accident likely occurred because the driver didn’t know that part of the road had collapsed,” he said, stressing the urgency of installing additional signage to alert road users of such hazards. — DayakDaily
