KUCHING, May 23: The newly completed parking area at Kampung Stutong Melayu is set to bring significant relief to residents and visitors, improving accessibility and easing congestion during major community and religious events held at the surau and community hall.
Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap together with officers from Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has today officiated at the handover ceremony of the completed Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) 2025 project implemented by contractor Syarikat Langit Cerah.
The project involved the construction of a new parking area at Lorong 1, in front of the Al-Mukhlis surau and hall in Kampung Stutong Melayu, as well as the installation of safety handrails, with a total cost of RM100,000.
Implemented under the RTP 2025 initiative, the project aims to enhance convenience, safety, and accessibility for residents and visitors attending programmes, prayers, and community events at the location.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Yap said the additional parking spaces would help ease congestion and traffic difficulties, particularly during weddings, festive celebrations, religious gatherings, and large-scale community activities frequently held at the venue.
“The completion of this project brings direct benefits to the people of Kampung Stutong Melayu. The new parking area will provide greater convenience for residents and visitors while the installation of safety handrails enhances public safety, particularly for the elderly, children, and those attending events at night or during bad weather conditions,” he said in a statement today.
Yap added that the project reflects the continuous commitment of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government in delivering practical grassroots development projects that directly improve the daily lives of the people regardless of race or religion.
He also expressed appreciation to MBKS officers and engineering teams, village leaders, and local residents for their cooperation in ensuring the smooth implementation and successful completion of the project.
