KUCHING, Sept 25: The polling date for the Jepak by-election has been set for Nov 4, with nomination day on Oct 21.
The Election Commission (EC) deputy chairman Dr Azmi Sharom announced this in a press conference broadcast live via its official social media channels after a special meeting to discuss important dates relating to the N67 Jepak by-election in Putrajaya today.
Early voting will be held on Oct 31.
The Jepak seat was vacated following the death of its incumbent Datuk Talib Zulpilip at Normah Medical Specialist Centre on Sept 15.
Talib was also Sarawak’s former Minister in the Chief Minister’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman). He served as an assemblyman for Jepak constituency from 1996 until his passing.
Azmi said Balai Raya Kampung Jepak, Bintulu will be used as the nomination centre as well as vote counting centre for the election.
“A total of 446 officers have been appointed to manage the Jepak by-election.
“There will be a total of 14 ordinary voting centres consisting of 45 channels and one early voting centre with one channel to be utilised,” he said in a statement.
Azmi also mentioned that the Jepak by-election will require an allocation of RM2 million.
For the N67 Jepak seat, he said there are 22,804 registered voters comprising 22,761 regular voters and 43 police.
For postal voting through online, applications are open beginning today (Sept 25) until Oct 4 for Malaysians residing overseas; Oct 9 (for agencies and organisations); and Oct 18 (for election workers, EC officers and members, police, armed forces, and media practitioners).
