KUCHING, April 22: The federal government has been urged to emulate Sarawak in introducing free education up to the tertiary level to all Malaysians.
In a TVS report, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul expressed how impressed he was with Sarawak’s education policy, which he described as progressive and far-sighted.
“This is what Sarawakians are waiting for, not to mention Sarawak is the only State in Malaysia that is ahead in the field of technology and energy generation capabilities.
“Sarawakians, especially women, should take the opportunity to equip themselves to become technocrats, scientists, innovative individuals, and so on, especially in the field of energy,” he said.
He said this at a press conference after the opening ceremony of the 4th Meeting of the Coordinating Committee of Women Parliamentarians of the Asean Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (WAIPA) 2025 here today.
According to him, the policy not only paves the way for more young people to change their future but also contributes to the country’s development in critical areas such as energy, science, and technology.
Last month, the Sarawak Cabinet approved a proposal to implement the Sarawak Free Tertiary Education Scheme (FTES), which will be implemented next year and is open to Sarawakians. — DayakDaily
