KUCHING, April 22: The Sarawak government is still waiting for complete data on a preliminary study conducted by Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) on the potential of oil and gas reserves in Limbang and Lawas.
According to TVS, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said industry experts are conducting the study.
“We have given Petros a license to conduct a study on the potential of oil and gas in the area. I was informed that the complete data from the study is expected to be obtained in the third quarter of this year.
“As soon as the data is available, they will present a briefing to me,” he said.
He said this when met by the media after officiating the Kampung Pahlawan Entrepreneurs’ Pavilion and Aidilfitri programme at Kampung Pahlawan in Limbang today.
Commenting further, Awang Tengah said that if the study proves the existence of oil and gas resources in the area, it has the potential to be a catalyst for major changes in the State’s economic development, especially in the northern region of Sarawak.
“The discovery will not only boost economic activities but will also enhance the overall development in Sarawak and open a new chapter to a brighter future for the people in the northern region,” he said. — DayakDaily
