KUCHING, April 22: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng has issued a warning to the public regarding two fake Facebook accounts that were created using his name and image.

In a press release, he said the accounts were created by irresponsible parties seeking to mislead the public and emphasised that the accounts are in no way associated with him or MBKS.

Therefore, he urged members of the public to ignore any messages or friend requests received from the fake accounts and to refrain from engaging with them.

The matter has been formally reported to Facebook for further investigation and appropriate action. The two accounts are:

“This is not the first time such an incident has occurred. There have been four to five instances where irresponsible individuals have created fake accounts using my face and name.

“I strongly advise the public to stay vigilant and to always verify information through my official social media platforms,” he said.

The mayor also reminded the public to exercise caution when interacting online and to report any suspicious accounts or activities immediately.

For official news and updates, the public is encouraged to refer to Wee’s verified Facebook page, as well as MBKS’ official social media channels. — DayakDaily
