KUCHING, March 7: For the first time, students from five schools in Kuching that are named after St Joseph will get together on the grounds of SMK St Joseph and St Joseph’s Private School for common activities on a day called Josephian Day.

It will be held on March 13 from 10:30am to 12:00pm.

The Old Josephians’ Association (OJA) said students from the five schools that will take part in the event include SMK St Joseph, SK St Joseph, St Joseph’s Private Primary School, St Joseph’s Private Secondary School and St Joseph’s International School.

“It is a great opportunity for students from various backgrounds to mingle under the proud identity of being called a ‘Josephian’. On top of that, old boys from the alumni body of Old Josephians’ Association (OJA) will also take part, themselves being proud Josephians as well,” OJA said in a statement.

Meanwhile, prominent ex-Josephians whom are expected to attend the event include Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is also OJA president.

Another notable ex-Josephian, the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Kuching, Simon Poh, will lead the opening prayer.

It revealed that students will get to play interactive games run by students from the different St Joseph schools.

OJA disclosed that a performance corner has been set up where students with a variety of talents can showcase their entertaining abilities.

Apart from that, OJA revealed that members will also compete with current students in the “Back to School Games,” that is, badminton, ping pong, basketball and futsal.

“We’ll see who wins – older Josephians or younger ones. The younger kids who are from the primary schools will have their active and fun aerobics session in the SK St Joseph grounds.

“At least ten food trucks have agreed to sell their delicious snacks to students on school grounds,” it said.

On top of that, OJA added that there will be a book and stationery exhibition from at least two bookstores. It is hoped that the first-ever Josephian Day can be a first of many Josephian Days in the years to come. — DayakDaily
