According to a press release, the Ora Et Labora Run aims to provide an opportunity for ex-students to reunite and render service to their alma mater.

Deputy Premier of Sarawak Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is also OJA president, said: “St Joseph is now 140-years-old. As Sarawak eased into more relaxed rules on the Covid-19 control and prevention measures set by the Ministry of Health starting May 1, we are blessed to be able to celebrate the school’s 140th year anniversary.

“OJA Kuching is organising a series of programmes such as the yearly ‘Back to School Games’ where the present students will play games against the old boys.

“OJA will also organise a career and leadership talk by school alumni as speakers to motivate and inspire younger Josephians to different fields of professions such as medicine, engineering, law, accounting, and other professional careers.”

Dr Sim went on to say that the grand finale of the school’s 140th Anniversary will be a dinner in the Tan Sri Datuk William Tan auditorium, with Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, the school’s very own alumnus, expected to grace the dinner.

This year’s event is expected to attract at least 800 runners, including current students, alumni, and members of the general public.

The run is divided into three categories: the 1.4km Walk for Families and Children, the 5km Fun Run, and the 10km Race.

All participants who complete the run will receive finisher medals, and the top ten finishers in the 10km Race will receive additional cash prizes.

The registration fees are RM50 per person for the 1.4km Walk and 5km Fun Run, and RM60 per person for the 10km Race.
