MIRI, Sept 10: A 22-year-old man was killed after the car he was driving lost control and collided with a four-wheel-drive vehicle along the Miri-Bintulu Coastal Road in Bekenu here last night.
Miri District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the fatal crash occurred at about 8pm on Sept 9.
He said the victim was driving from Batu Niah towards Miri, while the four-wheel-drive vehicle, driven by a 30-year-old local man, was travelling from Bekenu towards Batu Niah.
“Upon reaching the Miri-Bintulu Coastal Road in Bekenu, the car lost control and entered the opposite lane before its rear left section was struck by the four-wheel-drive vehicle,” he said in a statement today.
The 22-year-old driver sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by a Miri Hospital medical assistant at about 8.26pm.
The four-wheel-drive driver suffered minor injuries.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
