MIRI, Sept 10: Post-mortem examinations on the five victims of Flying Doctor Service (FDS) helicopter crash in Long Lellang are taking time due to the condition of the victims’ remains, which were badly burnt and incomplete, requiring meticulous forensic examination.
Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said the post-mortems were still ongoing as of 5pm today.
“The post-mortems are still ongoing,” he told Bernama when contacted.
The examinations are being conducted at the Forensic Department of Hospital Miri.
A Bernama check at the hospital found the entrance gate to the department closed, with outsiders barred from entering the area.
Media personnel who had been waiting since morning at the lobby of the hospital’s old building also did not see any family members of the victims in the area.
Bernama was also informed that once the post-mortems are completed, deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) samples will be sent to the Chemistry Department in Kuching for analysis and formal identification.
The victims’ remains can only be released to their respective families after the analysis and identification process has been completed.
On Tuesday, the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) said a BO-105 helicopter carrying five people, including the pilot, crashed near the Long Lellang Short Take-Off and Landing Airport (STOLport).
The five victims were pilot Captain Zainol Afiq Bee Sham, 30; medical officer Dr Ainul Baraah Kamaruddin, 33; medical assistant Alexson Adit Henry, 31; and nurses Debra Moset, 40, and Jessie Paya Jok, 44. — Bernama
