EU seeks partnership with Sarawak in regional sustainable energy

KUCHING, Nov 10: The European Investment Bank (EIB) and European Union (EU) are seeking partnership possibilities with Sarawak to co-develop regional sustainable energy as well as nature-based solutions initiatives.

A delegation from the EIB and EU has paid a courtesy call on Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Dr Hazland Abang Hipni today to convey their interest and reinforce their support for Sarawak’s clear climate action and development agenda.

According to a media release, EU sees Malaysia as a core in its Indo-China strategy and looks forward to partnering with Sarawak in advancing its vision, in line with Sarawak’s 2030 visions chartered out in the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2020 as well as Sarawak’s gas, hydrogen and green energy roadmaps.

The delegation consisted of Minister Counsellor of EU Delegation to Thailand Daniel Hachez, First Counsellor for Delegation of the EU to Malaysia Francesco Floris, Programme Officers (Cooperation) of EU Delegation to Thailand Francesca Gilli and Saroj Srisai, and Head of the EIB Regional Representation for Southeast Asia and Pacific Sunita Lukkhoo.

They were accompanied by Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) Bioeconomy (CBE) Unit head Timothy Ong and its Chemical & Advanced Materials Division deputy director Hazwanie Hassan. — DayakDaily
