KUCHING, Nov 10: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) candidate for P216 Hulu Rajang Abun Sui Anyit is urging Sarawakians to vote for Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the coming 15th General Election (GE15) after a survey indicated that the coalition is leading in terms of support to form the new federal government.

As PH is the largest bloc contesting in GE15, Abun Sui, who is also Sarawak PKR information chief, believes that a stable and strong government can be formed with support from the people of Sarawak for Sarawak PH’s candidates from PKR, Democratic Action Party (DAP) and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah).

“This (victory for PH) will enable PH to launch the administration of the federal government to be formed later.

“Sarawak’s strong voice can only be heard with the participation of representatives from Sarawak PH in the PH government,” he said in a statement today.

Abun Sui added that Sarawakians should support and vote for PH candidates who are clean and have integrity.

His call came following a survey by Merdeka Centre For Opinion Research which indicated that PH has a slight edge over Barisan Nasional (BN) among political coalitions in terms of margin of voters’ preferences.

Survey respondents comprised 1,209 voters of various ethnicities from 22 parliamentary constituencies. The survey conducted from Oct 19 to 28 revealed that the respondents who supported PH stood at 26 per cent as compared to BN, which trailed behind by two per cent at 24 per cent, while Perikatan Nasional (PN) only garnered 13 per cent.

Meanwhile, respondents favouring Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) and other political coalitions stood at two per cent, each.

However, Merdeka Centre also reported that the majority of respondents or 31 per cent were unsure or have no preference.

BN, however, led the overall Malay voters’ preference at 32 per cent with PN trailing at 20 per cent, and PH at 13 per cent. GTA and other political coalitions were at two per cent.

Based on this, Merdeka Centre said there is a rising possibility that at least three or more parties or coalitions are needed to cooperate to form a government with a simple majority.

Meanwhile, Abun Sui will once again face off against incumbent Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong from Gabungan Parti Sarawak-Parti Rakyat Sarawak (GPS) in P216 Hulu Rajang in a straight fight this GE15. — DayakDaily
