KUCHING, July 7: Five housing projects planned across Demak Laut and its surrounding areas are set to be expedited, with each project expected to deliver between 600 and 1,000 housing units.
Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni said the projects in Muara Tebuan, Tanjong Bako, Sejingkat, Gobil and Bako would help meet growing housing demand following improved connectivity through the Sejingkat Bridge.
He said the projects could collectively provide between 3,000 and 5,000 new homes for residents in the area.
“This will be one of the ways to improve the socio-economic status of the people in Demak Laut, Kuching and Kota Samarahan as these areas are now connected through this bridge,” he told reporters during a site visit to the Sejingkat Bridge project today.
He said the Sejingkat Bridge was a significant development that would benefit not only residents of Demak Laut and Sejingkat, but also Sarawak as a whole.
Dr Hazland expressed his appreciation to the Sarawak leadership, particularly Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, the Cabinet, and the Ministry of Infrastructure for making the project a reality.
He added that Demak Laut currently has about 56,000 residents across 40 villages, with the area spanning around 15,000 hectares.
Dr Hazland said the development potential of the area was further strengthened with future plans for major infrastructure projects, including a new airport at Tanjung Embang and a deep-sea port located about 8km offshore. — DayakDaily
