KUCHING, Nov 10: If one can control “nafsu” (passion) during Ramadan, one can uphold integrity, says Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Abang Johari stated this today in his keynote speech during the Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) Integrity Day 2022 programme held at a hotel here.

“Fasting is a simple way for us to instil the question of whether you can maintain integrity.

“But, to break fast is easy—just drink water. No one will know. If you’re hungry, eat in the room. No one will know.

“That is where our integrity is put to the test, because God is watching us,” he said.

He went on to say that eating during “bulan puasa” (fasting month) is considered as “nafsu” (lust).

“If you can control your ‘nafsu’, thank god, you can uphold integrity. And that is the basic in Islam.

“If you serve God and society, God will reward you for your faith, and that is the reward you seek.

“From an Islamic perspective, you go to heaven. After all, we believe in the world after you die,” he added.

“Because, at the end of the day, God is keeping an eye on us. Even as I speak to you, God is watching to see if I will do the same.” — DayakDaily
