KUCHING, March 6: Sarawak Police Commissioner Dato Mancha Ata today said that there are 1,767 police retirees that have yet to be awarded the Pingat Jasa Pahlawan Negara (PJPN).

According to a TV Sarawak (TVS) news report, he urges retired and former Sarawak police personnel to promptly register, update their data, and persistently apply for their well-earned medals through the PDRM e-Pesara portal.

“They can register themselves or with the help of family members at the Pensioner Affairs branch at the nearby IPD for more information,” said Mancha.

The Sarawak Police Contingent has awarded the PJPN to a total of 3,435 police personnel, including 2,340 retirees and 1,075 active-duty officers since 2014.

From the overall figures, Mancha noted that only 20 police retirees received the award at their residences due to health-related reasons.

In a press conference following the medal ceremony at the Batu Kawa PGA camp today, Mancha said that the Sarawak contingent has conducted a total of 13 formal award ceremonies and five informal ones.

For him, the medal recognises the valiant services of individuals who served during the era of emergency in Malaya from July 12, 1948 to July 21, 1960, the Communist Insurgency era dated between June 17, 1968 to Dec 2, 1989, and the emergency in Sarawak and Sabah from 1962 to Oct 17, 1990.

He further mentioned that four additional award ceremonies (PJPN) are scheduled for this April and July. — DayakDaily
