KUCHING, March 6: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has disclosed that the RM6.1 billion Northern Coastal Highway (NCH) project, which will connect Limbang and Lawas through Brunei, is being funded by the State with work to begin in 2025 and continue until 2030.

Abang Johari stated that the 88km-long dual carriageway project is part of the ongoing development in Limbang.

“The four-lane dual carriageway will connect Lawas. In Lawas, we’ve also identified a potential port site. In addition, there is a new airport. Another is that the private sector will develop a tourist area, a resort facing Brunei Bay. It will not be far from the port that we will construct.

“With this infrastructure, Limbang will be able to attract regional tourists,” he said during a press conference today at Limbang Waterfront in Limbang.

Meanwhile, according to Deputy Premier of Sarawak Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, the Sabah-Sarawak Link Road (SSLR) which will connect Miri to Limbang and Lawas without passing through Brunei, will also be implemented where the first phase is already under construction.

For the record, the NCH project will be undertaken by the Regional Corridor Development Authority (Recoda) via the Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA).
