KUCHING, July 17: The Borneo Convention Centre Kuching 2 (BCCK 2) project is expected to be completed ahead of schedule by the end of 2027, earlier than the targeted completion date of March 31, 2028.
The contractor has committed to fast-tracking the high-impact infrastructure project, which officially commenced on April 30 this year, according to a Facebook post by the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR).

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who visited the project site today (July 17), welcomed the commitment and expressed confidence in the capability and determination of all parties involved in delivering the project on time and to world-class standards.
Uggah, who is also the Second Minister for Finance and New Economy as well as the Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development, said the BCCK 2 project reflects the Sarawak government’s strong commitment to infrastructure development that is resilient, globally competitive, and aligned with the Post-2030 Development Strategy.
BCCK 2 is a strategic initiative by the Sarawak government to strengthen Kuching’s role as a premier hub for conventions and international events in the Southeast Asian region.
With a capacity to accommodate up to 9,500 participants at one time, BCCK 2 is expected to deliver significant economic and tourism benefits, while expanding the State’s capacity to host large-scale international conferences and events.
Also present during the site visit were JKR Sarawak director Dr Cassidy Morris; Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development Sarawak, Latiff Coupon; officers from the ministry and JKR Sarawak; and representatives from the project’s consultants and contractors. — DayakDaily
