KUCHING, Aug 3: The BCCK2 expansion and the International Water Association (IWA) World Water Congress and Exhibition 2028 mark the next phase of Sarawak’s business events growth, with stronger cross-sector collaboration needed to sustain the momentum, says Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
In a statement, he said stronger collaboration between government, industry and strategic partners will be increasingly important as Sarawak prepares to host larger international business events and expand its event and hospitality infrastructure.
“Our priority is to strengthen partnerships across the business events ecosystem while continuing to enhance Sarawak’s tourism and hospitality capabilities so every event delivers exceptional delegate experiences and greater value for our economy and communities,” he said during a courtesy call by Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak).
The BESarawak delegation, led by chairman Datu Hii Chang Kee, briefed Abdul Karim on the industry’s latest progress, upcoming international events and initiatives to strengthen Sarawak’s position as Malaysia’s and Borneo’s legacy capital for business events.
Hii said the State continues to attract more regional and international business events each year, reflecting the strong support from ministries, government agencies, associations and private-sector partners.
“As we prepare for BCCK2 and major events such as the International Water Association (IWA) World Water Congress and Exhibition 2028, we must continue working together to ensure these opportunities bring lasting benefits to Sarawak,” he said.
He also expressed appreciation to the Sarawak Government as well as tourism, hospitality and industry partners for their continued commitment to developing the sector.
Meanwhile, Jason said BESarawak would continue connecting event organisers with government, industry and academia to ensure conferences generate meaningful economic, social and intellectual outcomes beyond attracting delegates.
He added that BESarawak would continue strengthening local capabilities through capacity-building initiatives, strategic partnerships and innovative programmes.
The courtesy visit reaffirmed the Sarawak Government’s and BESarawak’s commitment to strengthening collaboration across the business events ecosystem in support of the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030. — DayakDaily
