KUCHING, Aug 3: A 29-year-old local man was arrested for allegedly recording a video that outraged the modesty of a woman at the Kuching Food Festival recently.
In a statement, Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said that the suspect was arrested at approximately 9.20pm on Aug 1.
“The arrest led to the seizure of a mobile phone belonging to the suspect as evidence. A check of the suspect’s criminal record found that he had no previous criminal record.
“The suspect has been remanded for two days to assist in further investigations,” he said.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code for insulting the modesty of a person by recording a video. If convicted, the offender is liable to imprisonment for up to five years, a fine, or both.
He also advised the public to always respect the privacy of others and refrain from committing any acts that violate the law.
