LUNDU, Oct 24: Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) Lundu’s activity centre costing RM500,000 is expected to be completed within six months.
According to a report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Sarawak Education, Innovation and Talent Development Minister, Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn said the centre will serve as a venue to hold various Bidayuh cultural activities.
“As a non-governmental organisation (NGO), DBNA has shown great potential in the development of the Bidayuh community in Sarawak.
“For that purpose, DBNA Lundu will get an activity centre for the purpose of holding Bidayuh community activities in a better manner,” he said when officiating at the 2021 Excellent Students Incentive presentation ceremony and DBNA Lundu Activity Centre ground-breaking ceremony at Kampung Serayan Hulu on Saturday (Oct 22).
Sagah who is the Tarat assemblyman and a senior Bidayuh politician further said that since DBNA was established, various changes can be seen in terms of social, economic and political aspects in the Bidayuh community, and thus, the Bidayuh community needs to be strong and stay united to ensure continuity in all aspects of development.
Meanwhile, DBNA president Datu Ik Pahon Joyik said matters related to the customs and ancestry of the Bidayuh people need to be preserved such as traditional clothing, traditional dances, language and customs.
Meanwhile, at the ceremony, a total of 30 Bidayuh children from Lundu District received excellent student incentives and aid to further their studies.
Also present were Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang, political secretaries to the Sarawak Premier Niponi Undek and Damien Rijek, as well as DBNA Lundu chairman Suimi Kinseng. — DayakDaily
