A total of 35,423 candidates from Sarawak sat for the SPM 2024 examination across 255 centres, comprising students from government schools, government agency-run schools, independent religious secondary schools, private schools, and private candidates.

“From the 32,239 candidates in government schools, 821 students (2.55 per cent) obtained straight A results, compared to 726 students (2.23 per cent) in 2023.

“Meanwhile, 30,341 students (94.11 per cent) qualified for the SPM certificate—the highest rate since the certification criteria were revised in 2013,” he said during a press conference on the SPM 2024 results held at Waterfront Hotel here today.

English recorded the most significant improvement among core subjects with a gain of 0.18 points. Science and Mathematics also saw progress, increasing by 0.14 and 0.05 points respectively. Among STEM elective subjects, Chemistry posted the highest improvement with a 0.40-point gain.

Sagah also noted that 28 schools in Sarawak achieved a 100 per cent eligibility rate for the SPM certificate in 2024, a marked increase from 19 schools the year before.

Notably, SMK Long Bedian in Baram—participating as an SPM centre for the first time—recorded full certification eligibility and celebrated a student who achieved straight A’s among its 43 candidates.

Special education candidates also showed improved outcomes, with 86 out of 127 students (67.72 per cent) qualifying for certification, up from 65.85 per cent in 2023.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Education Director Omar Mahli, in his official address this morning, announced that candidates may collect their results directly from their schools starting at 10am today.

He added that results are also accessible online through the Ministry of Education’s portal at myresultspm.moe.gov.my or via SMS. These digital platforms will remain available until 6pm on April 30, 2025.

For candidates without internet access, results can be collected manually at their respective schools. — DayakDaily
