MIRI, Mar 13: Petronas Sports Village at Jalan Datuk Tuah Johari here will be used as a quarantine facility to care for Patient-Under-Investigation (PUI) cases for Covid-19.

According to Minister of Transport Datuk Lee Kim Shin, five out of 15 PUI patients are expected to be transferred to the quarantine centre later today.

“They will be brought to the quarantine centre in stages,” Lee explained.

Lee disclosed this during a press conference held today at Petronas Sports Village.

Various government agencies were attended at the press conference, including Miri hospital director Doctor Jack Wong.

“A total 15 PUI (14 male and 1 female) were received by Miri hospital who were believed to have attended a religious gathering in Sri Petaling mosque in Selangor,” Lee opined.

All of the PUIs are from Peninsula Malaysia.

“So far, Miri has no positive Covid-19 case, the quarantine facility is being set up to care for those PUI because they have no other place to go while waiting for the medical test,” Lee stated.

He gave his that the state government was taking all the precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the disease.

The religious gathering was held from February 28 to March 1 at a mosque in Selangor.

Lee also disputed claims that a Bruneian man who had attended the religious event in Sri Petaling mosque had been to several places in Miri before going back to Brunei.

“The man had gone back to Brunei that same day after touch down, passing through Sungai 7 checkpoint. He had never stopped at the shopping malls in Miri,” Lee explained.

He added that authorities had also disinfected Miri Aiport for precautionary measures.—DayakDaily
